Rocket J. Squirrel

Rocket J. Squirrel is a 1978 Ron Holland design based on the legendary IMP that had just won Fastnet and competed in the Admiral's Cup in 1977. The Rocket has done 3 prior Bermuda Races in 1994, 2012 and 2014. She was originally based in Bainbridge Island, Washington and cruised and raced extensively in the Pacific Northwest. In 1992, while racing in the Victoria Maui race, her rudder failed which resulted in the Coast Guard steaming 600 miles from San Francisco to tow Rocket back to Sausalito. Carl Schumacher was commissioned to design a new rudder whereafter Rocket was trucked to Jamestown, RI. She then competed in racing all over New England, cruising in Maine, racing in the Caribbean including winning her class in the Lauderdale Key West Race and podium finishes in multiple races at Key West Race Week. The Rocket has been on the scene now for 46 years and owned by Chris Otorowski for the past 32 years and been lovingly cared for by the craftsmen at Jamestown Boatyard.
